About Wendy Struck

About Wendy Struck

Wendy Struck is a painter, assemblage artist, object maker, and muralist. Wendy has worked in a variety of art-related positions, including a set painter, prototype designer, artist in residence, gallery owner, project coordinator, outreach artist, and art instructor. She has been promoting and teaching visual art to adults and children for over 20 years. Wendy is currently the Education Coordinator at Medalta in the Historic Clay District and works in her home studio in Medicine Hat Alberta.

“I create to communicate, to question, to explore ideas, and to create a dialogue with others. Most recent work was created to record imagined places, the longing to be closer to nature, and the notion of creating a sense of home in any setting. It is also born from continued explorations in opposition; inside/outside, private/public, home/away, painting/sculpture, introversion/extraversion.

My work is influenced by my interest in the object as artifact and by the clean, orderly approach of Joseph Cornell, what I see as a scientific aesthetic, combined with the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi; beauty that is imperfect, incomplete, and transient.”
